A Beloved North End Church Needs Your Help

In 1873, St. Leonard’s Roman Catholic Church was founded as the first parish in New England built by Italian immigrants.

For over 140 years it has served as the vibrant parish home for generations of North End families, and a place of quiet prayer and reflection for tens of thousands of visitors.

Currently St. Leonard’s is closed, undergoing an extensive $3.2 million restoration to make it safe, beautiful and accessible for future generations.

We need your support to complete this historic project.

Serving the North End for 140 Years

The Restoration

A 2015 analysis revealed significant structural, building code and cosmetic issues with our building. Working with the Boston Archdiocese Facility Management team, work began in early 2016 on the building exterior and stained glass windows.

The church was closed in January, 2017 for interior demolition/reconstruction, and currently we are moving full speed ahead. Our goal is to re-open the church for Christmas, 2017.

Financial Need

Of the $3.2 million dollars estimated to complete this project, $1.5 million has already been raised through the generous donations of benefactors and investment returns in our Church Reserve Fund.

We’re excited about the incredible response to this historic project, but need your help to reach our goal. Please pray for our success, and if possible donate financially.
